Cardiac Advancements

History and Business Overview

Cardiac Advancements, LLC, specializes in cardiac care technology products and has a long history in design, manufacturing, sales, and services. The Company, headquartered in Colgate, Wisconsin, was formed in 2008 as a holding company for its subsidiaries that currently include Lechnologies Research Inc. and Cardiostaff Corporation. Cardiac Advancements is also a major shareholder in Lohman Technologies, which was spun off into a separate entity in 2014.

The Company, through its founders Timothy Lohman and Susan Wendland, has its roots in Cardiac Evaluation Center, Inc. (CEC), a Lohman family business founded in 1978 as a Holter scanning service.

CEC processed patient’s heart rhythm data from more than a half million Holter recordings. The Holter recorder is an ambulatory electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) that records the electrical activity of the heart continuously for 24 or 48 hours. Physicians throughout the United States collected patients’ data on Holter recorders that were sent to CEC for analysis.

Over the course of 25 years, CEC grew to over 90 employees with offices in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Cleveland and San Antonio; in the later years generating annual growth rates of over 15 percent from clients increasingly responding to the company’s reputation for service quality.

With a dedication for continuous improvement in cardiac care technology devices, the Lohman family achieved recognition as pioneers in the industry with several patents related to cardiac monitoring.

In the early 1980s, CEC pioneered development of the 30-day memory loop technology in order to effectively capture transient heart arrhythmias. In 1984, the Retrospective™ cardiac event recorder was introduced. Today, the fourth-generation cardiac recorder, the Genesis™ ECG Memory Loop Recorder, is considered one of the best recorders ever built with its ability to deliver a 30-day recording of patients’ cardiac events and Internet access of data and reports.

In 2004, CEC and its cardiac monitoring services were sold to Raytel Medical Corporation, which was subsequently sold to Philips Healthcare. In so doing, the Lohman family retained rights to Genesis™ Memory Loop Recorder manufacturing and sales.

Following the sale of CEC, the Lohman family formed two companies: Lechnologies Research, Inc. as a technologies research and cardiac device manufacturing and sales business initially supporting the Genesis Recorder; and, Lohman Technologies, LLC, an intellectual property holding company for 5 patents and a proprietary database of selected Holter tapes documenting cardiac arrhythmias applicable for research.

The AfibAlert product was the first innovation of Lechnologies Research, Inc. to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The AfibAlert monitor is designed for people who suffer from atrial fibrillation, an occasional erratic heart rhythm that could lead to health complications and a debilitating stroke. The lightweight, hand-held monitor records the user’s electrocardiogram (ECG) data, analyzes the data using a proprietary computer algorithm and delivers the information via telephone or computer to a patient’s health care provider or receiving service for interpretation. Patents held by Lohman Technologies include the AfibAlert™ Atrial Fibrillation Monitor.

In October 2008, the company acquired Cardiostaff Corporation, a cardiac monitoring service located in Austin, Texas. Cardiostaff professionals deliver personal online monitoring services for medical patients using a variety of monitoring technology, including Holter Monitoring, 30-day Cardiac Event Monitoring, the AfibAlert product, pacemaker monitoring devices, and the cell phone based cSTAT Mobile Cardiac Telemetry system. Cardiostaff professionals provide physicians and hospitals throughout the U.S. with accurate and timely arrhythmia information for diagnosis and arrhythmia therapy management for their patients through applications of the Cardiostaff remote monitoring services.

Cardiostaff is a Medicare/Medicaid designated Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF). The patient monitoring operation is overseen 24/7/365 by skilled EMT/paramedics, certified cardiac technicians, and nurses who help ensure each client’s medical practice receives the highest level of clinical accuracy with comprehensive symptom interpretations on their patient reports.

With a lengthy history of healthcare product innovation, proven service and dedication to its clients and their patients, Cardiac Advancements, LLC and its subsidiaries has been the provider of choice for over 2,500 cardiologists, physicians and heart healthcare practitioners nationwide.
